The Godhead

by David J. Stewart | May 2007 | Updated June 2018

Colossians 2:9, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

Skeptics of the Word of God often like to point out that the word “Trinity” is not found in the Scriptures; however, the Word “Godhead” most certainly is. We find the “Godhead” mentioned in Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20, and Colossians 2:9. Colossians 2:9 states it all so well... “For in Him [Christ] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” Literally, the Godhead came to this earth incarnate in the man Christ Jesus. Jesus was 100% man, and 100% God. Jesus did not give up His deity when He came to the earth. According to Hebrews 5:8, Jesus humbled Himself to the Father in Heaven, even being obedient unto death (the crucifixion). The Doctrine Of God The Father (Dr. Jeff Owens)

We read in Genesis 1:26, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness...” “Us” and “Our” are plural in the Hebrew. Clearly, God has manifest (or revealed) Himself to mankind as a Godhead, i.e., one God (Deuteronomy 6:4), yet three distinct individual Persons. It may not make good math; but, it definitely makes good Bible. I didn't author the Bible, God did. Either you believe that the Bible is God's Word, or you don't.

We plainly read in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Here we see all three individual members of the Godhead. Again in Luke 3:22 we see all three individual members of the Godhead, “And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”

These Scriptures cannot be thrown away. Several false religions, such as Jehovah's Witnesses, deny the Godhead. The argument is that the Trinity originated in pagan ancient Babylon. However, a distinct difference must be noted between the masculine Godhead of the Word of God, and the pagan goddess worship which originated with Nimrod and Semiramis. It was not Christianity that imitated paganism; but paganism Christianity. Furthermore, there is no ancient pagan religion which taught the Biblical doctrine of the Godhead. There are an abundance of Scriptural references to “God the father,” and to the “Son of God.” Clearly, they are two distinguished individuals.

The Godhead is Comprised of Three Distinct, Individual, Persons

John 1:1-2, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.” How can the Word (Jesus - John 1:14) be WITH God and also BE God? The answer is THE GODHEAD!!! Jesus is a member of the Godhead, yet individually exists as God the Son. 1st John 5:7, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” Amen!

The Pentecostal Oneness False Doctrine Debunked (by Pastor Steven L. Anderson)

Notice the clear distinction between God the Father and God the Son. John 5:22, “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son.” The oneness Pentecostal (also called Modalism) errantly claims that God puts on different hats and is really the SAME person, but that is NOT Biblical. The Bible teaches that there is “ONE GOD” (Deuteronomy 6:4), Who exists as a Godhead, comprised of three individual, distinct, persons (Romans 1:20; Acts 17:29 and Colossians 2:9 - King James Bible only).

Again, carefully notice the clear distinction between God the Father and God the Son. John 5:30-32, “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true. There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.” These are two distinct individuals.

In the following passage of Scripture, we see all three distinct, individual, members of the Godhead. John 14:12-16, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.” Repeatedly in the Holy Bible we see the individual members of the Godhead presented. These are three individual members of the Godhead, which is God.

Jehovah's Witness' religious cult deny the Godhead (aka, Trinity). JW's deny the person of the Holy Spirit. They deny the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. JW's deny the deity of Jesus, teaching the heresy that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers. JW's teach that Michael the archangel became incarnate as Jesus, and only in that sense as an angel was God's Son. Jehovah's Witnesses blatantly deny the doctrine of the Godhead. This means JW's are not saved. No one who denies the Godhead is saved. A person may be saved and not have yet learned the truth of the Godhead, but once they are taught the Scriptures, they will receive it if they are truly saved. Likewise, no one who denies Jesus' virgin birth, bodily resurrection or deity is saved. JW's also deny Jesus' bodily resurrection.

John 16:12-16, “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.”

John 16:32, “Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.” As you can plainly see from the Word of God, there is a mountain of evidence that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are three individual personalities, and not merely different hats that God wears. Modalism is of the Devil. The Pentecostal oneness teaching is a false doctrine. The one God of the Bible exists as three individual persons, all unique and separate in function and personality. The Bible even calls the doctrine of the Godhead a mystery. Colossians 2:2, “That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.” Thankfully, we don't have to understand the doctrine of the Godhead to be saved, but we WILL believe it if we are saved.

God the Father Loved God the Son Before the Foundation of the World

John 17:24, “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” In this amazing passage of Scripture we learn that God the Father loved God the Son before the foundation of the world. Clearly, they were not the same person. There is not a more satanic movement today than the Oneness cult, called modalism, who deny that Jesus has a separate body apart from God the Father. According to false prophets like Pastor Tyler Baker and Missionary Garrett Kirchway, only God has a body in Heaven.

The inspired Word of God (King James Bible) plainly teaches that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16), who raised up in a glorified physical body (John 20:15-17), appeared to several hundred people in His resurrected body (1st Corinthians 15:6), ascended into Heaven in a physical body (Acts 1:9), and will one day return in that same physical body (Acts 1:11; Revelation 1:7).

Jesus' Bodily Resurrection Teaches Immortality For The Whole Man In Both Body And Soul!!!

Does God Actually Exist In Three Persons? (a helpful quote from Dr. John Rice on the Trinity)

THE UNITY OF GOD (There's 1 eternally existing God in 3 persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit)

John 17:24 is biblical proof of the Trinity. In order for Jesus to be the OBJECT of God the Father's great love, then He had to be completely separate from the Father in His person. Likewise, God the Father loves the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit loves the Son, and the Son loves God the Father, and the Holy Spirit loves the Father, and the Son loves the Holy Spirit. In order for love to exist at all, there MUST be an object of that love!!! This is proof of the Godhead, i.e., Trinity.

The Godhead is Always Masculine in Gender, Never Feminine

Also, please understand that the Biblical Godhead is 100% totally masculine. There is NO feminine aspect of the Godhead as feminist theology, New Agers, witches, occultists and spiritists teach. Satan has been relentlessly attacking the Bible in these Last Days, producing the NIV 2011 which removes the pronoun “he” concerning the Holy Spirit in John 14:26. Satan's new transgendered Bible caters to homosexuals and feminists.

Also, we see the individuality of the Holy Spirit in Luke 12:10, “And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.” Acts 5:32, “And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” Notice the word “Whom,” not “it.” The Holy Spirit is a Person. In John 16:13 we read, “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” Six times in John 16:13, the Holy Spirit is referred to as the masculine pronoun He.”

The Godhead is a mystery. We read of “the mystery of God” in Colossians 2:2. You either believe the Bible is the Word of God, or you don't. By the way, many modern corrupted Bibles have entirely removed the word “Godhead,” such as in the New International Version (NIV). This is a direct attack on Christ's deity. Also, wherever the King James Bible says that someone “worshipped” Jesus, the NIV changes it to “knelt” instead. How deceitful.

Colossians 2:2 refers to the Godhead as “the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.” Isn't that a beautiful Scripture? I really want you to learn this Bible Verse, because it is the heart of the matter. The Godhead is a mystery. It's ok not to understand everything. Most people can't explain how a brown cow can eat green grass and produce white milk, but that yellow butter on your biscuits sure tastes good!

Thankfully we don't have to understand God to be saved, we just need to believe (trust) upon His only begotten Son Who died, was buried and rose again three days later for our sins (1st Corinthians 15:1-4; John 20:31; Acts 10:43).

The NIV Brutally Attacks Jesus' Deity

I recently received a letter from a man, who quoted me Philippians 2:6 from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible, claiming that Jesus was not the manifestation of the Godhead. Here's Philippians 2:6 from the King James Bible...

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

Now here's the damnable NIV...

Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.

Do you see why so many people are being deceived by Satan nowadays? Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the Godhead... “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” Colossians 2:9 so beautifully states... “For in Him [Jesus] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” If you want to come to the God of the Bible, then you MUST come only through Jesus Christ, Who is the beloved Son of God.

The GODHEAD is revealed (or manifest) in the Person, life and earthly ministry of the precious Lord Jesus Christ. “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also” (1st John 2:22,23).

If I had my way, I would burn every New International Version of the Bible in existence! I would burn every copy of Today's International Version as well. I would burn every copy of the corrupted New King James Version. In fact, I would burn every perverted Bible out there, including the Living Bible and Good News for Modern Man. I would burn the Revised Standard Version. God only wrote one book folks! Matthew 4:4 commands us to live by “every word” of the Bible. To do that we must have an “every word” Bible. We have it in the 1611 King James Bible which has been tested and proven trustworthy over the centuries.

The Bible, God's Holy Word, Proclaims the GODHEAD

This is the doctrine of the Trinity. Critics of the Bible like to point out that the word “Trinity” is not in the Bible. Albeit, the word “Godhead” is in the Bible, i.e., if you have a trustworthy King James Bible. The word Godhead is found in 3 places (Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20 and Colossians 2:9).

Deceitfully, the New International Version [NIV] and all modern corrupt versions of the Bible totally remove the word GODHEAD. This is blatant corruption of the Scriptures.

Deuteronomy 6:4 proclaims that there is one God. Yet the Bible manifests God in 3 Persons of God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit. Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”

The teaching of the Godhead is a fundamental doctrine of the Christian faith.

Acts 17:29, “Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.”

Romans 1:20, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”

Colossians 2:9, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”

Beware of any false minister or false religion that denies the Godhead.
