Feminist Theology?

(Feminism goes with theology as much as witchcraft would go with theology)

by David J. Stewart

"Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord..." -1st Peter 3:6

Introduction

I have well over 2,000 books.  People have often commented to me ..."I wish I liked to read as much as you do."  Truthfully, I don't like reading, but I certainly DO love learning.  To me, reading without learning is a waste of time, but that is just me.  I realize that some people like to read just for the sake of reading (and that's just fine, but I don't like to read anything unless I'm going to gain knowledge or wisdom from it).  So as you can imagine, I am NOT a fan of fiction.  I read to learn, thus performing the unpleasant task of reading books to fulfill the joy of learning.  I very much enjoy books because they contain information.  Each book is a reflection of someone's beliefs, attitudes, and soul.  Hence, I'm always on the lookout for more books.  I like to look around in thrift stores because there are usually lots of books available.  Recently while looking around in a Salvation Army thrift store, I noticed a book that caught that my attention...FEMINIST THEOLOGY from the THIRD WORLD by Ursula King (ISBN: 0-88344-963-3; or from the British Library, ISBN: 0-281-04736-7).  The book was first printed in the USA in 1994.   Throughout the book, the page titles read "Feminist Theology," which is what I will address the book as hereafter.  I have read the book and would like to share with you my Biblical rebuttal of this spiritually misguiding book.

I had never heard the term "feminist theology" before.  To my surprise, I found tons of articles online concerning this diabolical movement.  I say "diabolical" because the feminists are actually trying to redefine God by perverting the Scriptures.  God is NOT made of Playdough friend, you can't just shape Him into whatever type of god you want.  We were created in God's image, we CANNOT create Him in ours.  Tragically, the feminists have recreated their own false god that allows women to rule over men, and a woman to disobey her husband.  This wicked twisting of the Bible is known as "feminist theology" and it's straight from hell.

FEMINIST THEOLOGY by Ursula King is just another one of the devil's attempts to further the ecumenical movement.  What is the ecumenical movement?  It is simply the yoking together of Christians with heathen religions and organizations, with the end result always being APOSTASY.  Ursula King in her book tries to yoke godless feminism with Biblical Christianity, which is simply impossible.  You can say 2 + 2 = 5 if you want to, but the truth is intolerant...2 + 2 will always equal 4.  According to the book cover, Ursula King is Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Bristol....which in my opinion is very sad.

Let me also say before I begin that I mean no unkindness to Professor King or anyone, especially not to women.  I believe in equality as much as anyone, but WITHIN the teachings of the Word of God.  The type of equality which Ms. King promotes is in fact REBELLION against God's Word.  BIBLICAL SUBMISSION is a teaching nowhere found in Professor King's feminist book.  I triple-dog dare you to find any guidance from Ms. King's book encouraging a wife to OBEY her husband, you cannot.  It is sadly apparent that Ursula King is a wicked feminist hiding behind the cloak of religion and the Bible.  This will become more obvious to you as I present some of her numerous feminist quotes.  Throughout her book, you will find words such as "Liberation" and "empowerment" concerning women.  King's "feminist theology" is in her own words...a "liberation theology".

"Feminist Theology" is a misnomer.  Though the term may sound impressive, feminism goes with theology (the study of God) as much as witchcraft would go with theology.  Of course, witchcraft is rebellion against God, so any such phrase as "Witchcraft Theology" would be totally contradictory and absurd.  As with all the beliefs and efforts of the feminists, they are by nature a contradictory bunch.  Women cannot rebel against their God-given purpose in life (being a helpmeet to their husband) and still remain happy.  Nothin is happy in life until it fulfills the purpose for which it was created.  Like it or not, God created the woman for the man (Genesis, 2:18, "And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him").  There is NOTHING demeaning or second class about a wife living for her husband, thus obeying the Scriptures).  "Feminist Theology" is just as wicked as "Harry Potter," which is nothing less than witchcraft repackaged.

It is NOT surprising to me in this generation of apostasy that such a book would be written.  The New Oxford Annotated Bible recently came out just for homosexuals, twisting the Word of God around to condone being homosexual.  An ordained lesbian minister was recently called to pastor a church in Tennessee.  Even witches are now being ordained into the ministry.  Homosexuals are being ordainedChristianity Today shamefully and wickedly endorses Harry Potter's witchcraft, rather than condemning it.  America's religious leaders praised Pope John Paul II (a heretic) when he died.  Here's a Gay Baptist Church.  Oh the apostasy!  The world is turning away from God quickly.  Ask the average person today if they believe in hell and they'll say, "no...life is hell."  What has the world come to when professed "Christian" professors teaching in religious universities are promoting feminism?  It is apostasy and wickedness.

Let me make clear that feminism is evil

Twisting the Bible Around

Part III of Professor King's book is titled "The Bible as a Source of Empowerment for Women".  In Chapter 19 of this section, Professor King states...

You have just read the words of a rebellious feminist...NOT of a God-fearing Christian woman.  Just as Eve magnified her restrictions, so does Ms. King question the Word of God.  God never told Eve not to "touch" the fruit, only not to eat it (Genesis 3:3, "But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die."  Eve magnified her restrictions, just as ALL feminists do!  God is the Divine Lawmaker, not mankind.  Just the fact that Ms. King would refer to ANY portion of the Word of God as..."clear passages that suppress women" is clear indication that she is a militant feminist.  There is nothing even remotely Christian about feminism, just as there is no such thing as "Christian adultery" or "Christian homosexuality".

Professor King spends much of her book focusing upon the suffering and oppression of women in third world nations, and to a lesser extent here at home in the USA.  Though I certainly AGREE with the fact that women are being enslaved, sold, manipulated, and abused worldwide...the evils of tyranny, greed, and corrupt governments are infinitely more to blame than masculine theology.  Ms. King twists the Bible around to fit her agenda of feminism, totally IGNORING the plain and direct teachings of Scriptures.  While I understand the argumentative point which Professor King made in her statement above, it surely does NOT give anyone the excuse to diminish the importance of those Scriptures which King refers to as suppressive against women.

Truthfully, we are to obey ALL the Bible.  Evidently Ms. King fails to realize that there is nothing inferior about submitting to a higher authority.  Even Jesus Himself (Who Philippians 2:6 declares is EQUAL with God) said that His Father was greater than Himself (John 14:28).  We read in Philippians 2:8, "And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross").  If it wasn't demeaning for Jesus Christ Himself to humble before the Father (with Whom He was EQUAL), then why should any wife have a problem with submitting to her husband with whom she is also EQUAL.  Kindly said, Professor King is misguided concerning the truth of God's Word.  Women are in no way inferior.

Here are some further statements by Professor Ursula King:

It is apparent in my opinion that Ms. King has much animosity towards men in general (typical of feminists).  Feminism is NOT about women's rights as much as it is about women REBELLING against the Biblical teachings that a woman is to obey her husband and to keep quiet when around men in the church.

Give Us "Equality"

"I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." -Isaiah 14:14

In chapter 30, Challenging Traditional Theological Thinking, Professor King states...

Though the above statement may sound noble, it certainly is not.  The subtle suggestion of the above statement is that church leaders worldwide should sit down and sincerely listen to the complaints and demands of the feminists, but the obvious implication is clearly that the feminists want EMPOWERMENT.  This is clearly revealed by King's title chapter..."The Bible as a Source of Empowerment for Women".

Demanding?

Equality?

I recall Satan back in Isaiah 14:14 wanted equality with God..."I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."  Satan didn't want to overthrow God, he just wanted to be "like" God (equal to God).  Satan didn't try to deceive Eve that she would be greater than God; rather, he told Eve that she and Adam would be "as gods" (Genesis 3:5, "For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods...").  Oh how foolish are the women who buy into the devil's lie of feminism.  Feminism is that voice of the serpent in the Garden of Eden asking, "Hath God said?"...thus questioning the AUTHORITY of God's Word.  The feminists are an foolish bunch, questioning the Word of God.  Please don't commit the same foolish sin as Eve when she disobeyed God.  Feminism is all about disobedience.  Ursula King's book tries to discredit the Biblical teaching of wifely submission on the premise of womanly oppressions in third world nations.  In so doing, King is comparing apples with oranges.  You can't blame the Bible for the wickednesses of mankind.

What are those "suppressing" Scriptures in the epistles which King speaks of?  Interestingly she doesn't name any.  It's obvious to anyone who is knowledgeable about the Bible which one's they are...

"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law." -1st Corinthians 14:34

How about Ephesians 5:22...

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord."

1st Peter 3:1...

"Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands..."

1st Timothy 2:12...

"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

It is clear from these Bible passages (and umpteen more) that a wife is commanded by God to submit to her own husband.  It is also clear that women are not to have AUTHORITY over men, but to keep quiet.  This is not "suppression" Ms. King, this is the obedient faith which is pleasing to the Lord.  Ms. King's book rambles on with tons of dialog, and she beats around the bush much of the time, but it is abundantly clear that she is indeed a staunch feminist who does NOT accept the Biblical teaching of womanly submission at home or in the church.

Misapplying the Gospel

Ursula King states on page 296...

The above statement is VERY deceiving because what may seem for some to be liberation from rules and restrictions (remember Eve) may in reality be rebellion and sin.  A rebellious teenager who disobeys his or her parents with the reasoning that they want to be "free" may instead end up dead from a drug-overdoes or unknowingly raped at wild party while under the influence of the drug Ecstasy.  Where is their freedom, inside the rules or outside?  A little Chihuahua dog lives inside a fenced yard.  He barks aggressively at a ferocious Pit Bull killer walking by.  The little dog wants out and tries to find a way to escape but he cannot.  The little dog thinks that there's freedom outside the fence.  But the reality is that the little dog is infinitely safer INSIDE the restricted area.  Likewise, feminist women want out, they don't want to be told what to do.  Just as the little dog didn't know what was good for him, likewise feminist women know what's best for them.  The end result of feminism is lesbianism.  I once heard a young woman say, "I'm never going to get married, I'm not going to wait on any man hand and foot."  To no surprise, she became a lesbian, a very miserable and frustrated lesbian.  As she grew older, the sad reality set in that she had no children, she started gaining much weight, smoking and drinking alcohol, ...her life was ruined.  Where were her home wrecking Jezebel feminist friends then?  That's right, nowhere to be found.

Yes, the Gospel is at the core of all TRUE forms of liberation, but feminism is certainly NOT one of them.  Feminism enslaves!  Do you know why America is going to hell in every way?  Here's a statement from the great sermon, PAYDAY SOMEDAY, by Dr. R.G. Lee...

"The spiritual life of a nation, city, town, school, church, or home never rises any higher than the spiritual life of women." -Dr. R.G. Lee (Payday Someday)

It's that simple folks!  Women are the wives of today and the mothers of tomorrow.  Feminism is destroying America.  Increasingly, women are steering away from being mothers and wives, opting for careers instead.  Please don't allow feminism to rob you of being a submissive wife and a godly mother.  Please don't allow feminism to murder your baby through abortion.  Feminism has duped America's women into murdering their own little babies in the name of "liberation."  Please read the truth about Gloria Steinem.  Also, The Young Lady is a Tramp.   American Communism and Feminism.

The "liberation" which Ursula King is promoting is rebellion against God.  King's entire book attacks the Bible, what she calls "traditional theological thinking."  The term "theological thinking" implies that the historical doctrines of the Christian faith came by the will of men and not by God.  The Bible counters such allegations with the following truth...

"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." -2nd Peter 1:21

The 1611 King James Bible is the Word of God.  We received the Bible from the Holy Spirit, not from "theological thinkers" as King would lead people to believe.  You see, if you fall into the deceitful thinking of King that Christianity is "changeable," then you will be driven about by every wind of doctrine.  The Word of God CANNOT be changed (Matthew 5:18).  God CANNOT be changed (Malachi 3:6).  Though wifely obedience may appear only to be an "old-fashioned" tradition, it is so much more...it is obedience to the Word of God!

Again, the "liberation" which King claims is the core of the Christian Gospel does NOT include a liberation from obeying the plain and direct teachings of the Word of God.  God said what He meant and meant what He said!

Male and Female

Let me ask you a question..."Is God a male chauvinist?" After all, did not God make the husband the head of the wife (Ephesians 5:23)? Did not Paul asked women to silence themselves in church (2nd Timothy 2:12)? Did God make only males in His image, and then as an after thought make woman (as Archie Bunker suggested) a cheaper cut?

Helen Reddy became so incensed at this attitude that, upon acceptance of the Grammy Award for her record, she proclaimed "I am Woman, I thank God because She made it all possible."  That shocked most people in the 1970s, but in 2002, with the advent of a gender-neutral Bible, it does not seem so farfetched anymore.

To set the record straight on what God Almighty had in mind about man and woman, we need to go back to Genesis 1:26, where God says, "Let Us make man [humankind or human beings—not as Archie Bunker thought, only men or males] in Our image, according to Our likeness."  Both male and female together are created in the image of God.  There is no need to rewrite the Bible to satisfy the sinful agendas and DEMANDS of the feminists.  Please read, Is the Bible sexist?

The Feminists "female" God is NOT Immutable

(Trying to turn God into a female)

King states on page 256...

  • "God as mother and woman challenges the old concept that emphasized, along with other attributes, God as immutable and unchangeable.  Woman's body grows and changes radically through menstruation and pregnancy compared to the male body.  God as mother is more approachable and personable."

Professor King is redefining God, changing the truth into a lie..."Who changed the truth of God into a lie..." (Romans 1:25).  We were created in God's image, it is dangerous to try to recreate God in our own image.  Whether the feminists like it or not, God has presented Himself to mankind in the masculine gender.  The devil is using this damnable heresy that King and others (such as the Wiccan witches) are promoting about the female side of God.  Now Satan has even published new perverted Bibles promoting this heresy.  Nearly every cult throughout history has recognized a female goddess, or feminine side of God.  Here's some information on recent Bible corruptions:

  • TNIV: Translation Treason  (According to Hebrews 2:17 in the TNIV, Jesus was made like a woman in every way!  Should it be surprising that Harper Collins [parent company of Zondervan which publishes the NIV and TNIV] should also publish the filth, "Making Out, The Book of Lesbian Sex and Sexuality"?  I think not!  The devil is in the NIV and TNIV folks!  Get ready for the homosexual "gay" bible, it is coming!  By the way, Avon publishers [another subsidiary of Harper Collins] publishes the Satanic Bible!)
  • Does the World Really Need a Gender-Neutral Bible? (A gay Bible is on the way!)

King says..."God as mother and woman challenges the old concept that emphasized, along with other attributes, God as immutable and unchangeable."

Why would you want to "challenge" the Word of God Ms. King?  Also, did I read you right?  Did you call the Biblical proclamation of the immutability of God a "concept"?  "Immutability" means "the inability to change."  Thus, God is a Holy God, a God of moral perfection...nothing will ever change that.  God's perfect character and goodness CANNOT be compromised.  God cannot break a promise.  Malachi 3:6 declares, "For I am the LORD, I change not..."  How can you just disregard the Bible and "challenge" God's immutability Ms. King?  Professor King has opened up a Pandora's box with her numerous heretical teachings...which are not based upon sound Biblical doctrine...but rather upon the frustrations and wild conjectures of an unsaved feminist.  Sadly, there is a growing army of such apostate-minded individuals.  Ursula King is NO Christian!

In fact, professor King is aligned with the atheists...the following quote was taken from the atheist website: http://atheism.about.com/od/whatisgod/a/gender.htm

"...continued references to God as male are simply part of a larger situation in which religion serves to perpetuate stereotypes about and discrimination against women. Arguably, gender-neutral language about God would serve to reduce the prevalence of both stereotypes and discrimination, goals which should be important for religious organizations."

There is an ongoing Satanic attack against the Word of God...with hordes of feminists, atheists, witches, homosexuals, adulterers, God-haters, and even many professed Christians trying to twist the Bible into whatever they desire it to be.  Fortunately, the TRUTH cannot be changed!  The Word of God CANNOT be altered.  God's Word will prevail.

Ms. King says on page 295...

  • "Women (and men) are learning to study the Scriptures with love, thoroughness, and expectancy, and are now being open to the revelation of hidden meanings and meanings glossed over in relation to understanding women's place in the traditional faith."

HIDDEN MEANINGS?

Hmmm.  You mean after all these hundreds of years, Christians are just now starting to find "NEW" doctrines that weren't visible before?  "New meanings" means "new teachings" (and teachings are doctrines).  I've never heard anything so indicative of the apostate condition of religion today.  Folks, the woman who wrote this book is a "professor" in a religious university.

Let me share with you some of King's "hidden meanings"...

On page 244, Chapter 24 begins, titled, The Concept of God and the Spirit from the Feminist Perspective.

  • Somewhere along the line, it was apparently decreed that the Trinity should be all male.  Hence the adoration of the Virgin Mary as "daughter of the Father, mother of Jesus, spouse of the Holy Spirit."  A perfect example of the way some men would like to see women" always as daughter/mother/spouse, never as a human being in her own right.

"Somewhere along the way?"  How about forever Ms. King, because that's how long the Godhead has been in existence...for all eternity.  The Bible presents the Godhead as masculine, like it or not.  There never was a time when there was no God, and there never will be.  The whole concept of feminist theology is Biblically flawed.  You simply cannot feminize God to pacify the wickedness of a generation of feminists.  The Bible presents God in a masculine image...case closed.  Please read, Is God Male or Female?

Furthermore, Ursula King's above comment concerning women being daughters, mothers, and spouses clearly reveals her CONTEMPT for such God-ordained feminine roles.  Let me set you straight "Professor" King...THERE IS NO GREATER ROLE IN THE WORLD THAN THAT OF A MOTHER!  If you're a mother reading this article, don't you dare let some feminist rebel like Ursula King shake your confidence in being a mother.  Being a mother is infinitely greater than being a professor, career woman, or even President of the United States.  The future literally rests and depends upon mothers.  There is nothing degrading about being "just" a mother.  On the contrary, I think it is tragic for a woman to forfeit motherhood to pacify the foolish career seeking agendas of the feminists.  God intended for women to be a helpmeet for their husband, not sit behind a desk and analyze statistics.  I am not saying that it is wrong for a woman to work outside the home IF her husband agrees to it.  I am saying that to do so is a big step downward from being a mother at home raising her children for the Lord (1st Timothy 5:14).

Abuse Does NOT Permit Feminism

Here's a quote from the following webpage...http://www.wfu.edu/~matthetl/perspectives/twentyeight.html:

"Many lay-people see the ordination of women as a denial of the authority of Scripture, as an abandonment of the Bible. As such, it opens the door to a moral and religious relativism. One woman seminarian at Duke was assigned a field education appointment where the church elected to house her in a farm shed that had been formerly used for keeping animals. Her experience suggests just how much further Feminism must go, and just how much it is needed."

The author of the above quote is trying to justify rebellion against God's Word on the premise of alleged cases of mistreatment of women.  Just because some church members may or may not have made a wise decision does NOT give anyone the right to discredit the Bible.  Surely, nowhere in the Bible do we find an allowance for degrading women.  Abuse and mistreatment of women is wrong, but redefining the Word of God to give women "empowerment" and" liberation" against the plain teachings of the Bible is even worse.  "Feminist theology" is more than just theology from a female's point of view; rather, feminist theology is a twisting around of the Bible to nullify all Scriptures which "suppress" a woman's desire for authority.  Let me make clear this point: Feminism is NOT about equality of "rights" as much as it is about equality of "authority".  Feminists want AUTHORITY!!!  Please notice that I didn't say "power".  Women already have much power, but it's the power of "influence" and NOT the power of "authority".  Eve didn't like being restricted, she wanted to have the authority to do as she pleased.  Though she didn't have the power of "authority", she certainly did have the power of "influence" and she influenced Adam to do wrong.  Feminists want authority in the church over men (to tell men what to do) and they want authority in the home over the husband (to tell the husband what to do), but the Word of God teaches that it is wrong for a woman to usurp authority over a man (1st Timothy 2:12).  It is wrong for a woman to have dominion over a man.  The feminists hate this kind of "traditional theological thinking," but it is solid Bible.  If you are a feminist, then at least be honest enough to admit it...but don't hide like some coward behind such nonsensical inventions of the devil as "feminist theology" because there simply is NO such animal.

Ursula King in her book tries to yoke godless feminism with Biblical Christianity, which is simply impossible.  You can say 2 + 2 = 5 if you want to, but the truth is intolerant...2 + 2 will always equal 4.

  Feminist Fantasies

No assault has been more ferocious than feminism’s forty-year war against women. And no battlefield leader has been more courageous than Phyllis Schlafly. In these dispatches from the front, feminism’s most potent foe exposes the delusions and hypocrisy behind a movement that has cheated millions of women out of their happiness, health, and security.

  The Church Impotent
The Feminization of Christianity

The current preoccupation with the role of women in the church obscures the more serious problem of the perennial absence of men. This provocative book argues that Western churches have become "women's clubs," that the emasculation of Christianity is dangerous for the church and society, and that a masculine presence can and must be restored...the only book to confront the lopsidedly feminine cast of modern Christianity with a profound analysis of its historical and sociological roots.
