Facebook Is Really Messed-Up
by David J. Stewart | April 2020
I am new to Facebook. I apologize for any confusion. I have decided not to accept any more friend requests unless, one of the following:
I know the person (one of my web visitors) I am convinced their profile honors the Lord If you send me an e-mail (kingjamesbible77 at gmail dot com) so I know it is not a scam Like anybody else, I learn things as I go. I am disgusted with how Facebook works! It's bad enough that Facebook's computer invites strangers to send me “Friend Requests,” but then they send me “Friend Requests” to also accept their friends, and friends of friends. That is so stupid! Before you know it, everybody and their dog wants to be my friend, who couldn't care less about me or my ministry. What a joke! I am thankful that I realized this today before accepting 754 friends!
In the settings, privacy, area I turned off the notifications for friend requests for “People You May Know,” but the software doesn't work. I'm still getting bombarded with friend requests for people I may know. It is unfortunate I cannot turn it off. Due to my neck pain, ministry workload, and keeping my sanity, I had to turn off most notifications (I was receiving hundreds per day). Just so my web visitors know, by God's grace I will do my best to answer Facebook messages. It is an extension of my Pastor's Desk, an opportunity to help other people for Christ, but I won't make any promises. I will do my best! Thank you everyone for the “Friend Requests” and your patience with me. I am excited about my New Blogspot. I give Google two thumbs-up for their Blogspot. It is first class all the way in my humble opinion, and very user friendly.
In sharp contrast, Facebook gets a very low rating from me (in my humble opinion)—because it is poorly designed, very difficult for new users to figure out, and bombards users with notifications that (at least in my experience) cannot be turned off. My daughter helped me more in 5 minutes, than Facebook's “Help” section and Google's search engine helped me in 2 days to understand how Facebook works. The only intent I have for starting a Facebook page is to promote THE TRUTH to honor the Lord Jesus Christ, and to help my ministry to that cause. I am not interested in socializing, but I do want to answer Bible questions. One lady asked me today about homeschooling today and I was glad to point her to Zsuzsanna Anderson's blog, which contains many great helps for homeschooling.
I have received a lot of “Friend Requests” from Arabs, whose FaceBook page is in Arabic. They are mostly young people, dressed in night club attire, and their FaceBook page looks like a fashion show. Really? My Facebook page is an extension of my Jesus-is-Savior.com ministry (it is the Lord's ministry), and I want to except all of my web visitors and ANYBODY who sincerely desires to be my friend; but for every so-called “Friend” that I accept, who have no interest in my Christian testimony or ministry, it cheapens the value of “friendship” and the significance of my Facebook page. There is really no need to accept people as friends, because all of the information I share has been made public. I just want to help people, not help scammers, identity thieves, and exploiters. I think my faithful web visitors and Christian friends will appreciate this.
