Repentance From “Dead Works”
By David J. Stewart
Hebrews 6:1, "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God."
Hebrews 6:1 is a wonderful Scripture which explains to us exactly what Biblical repentance is. Hebrews 6:1, “...not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God.”
Hebrews 6:1 teaches the exact opposite of the heresy of Lordship Salvation. Whereas Lordship Salvationists say you have to try really hard to stop sinning to be saved; the Word of God in Hebrews 6:1 teaches that we are saved by ceasing from our own self-righteous (dead) works and placing our faith in God our Savior.
If there is one message that is being ignored today by the entire Contemporary Christian Music [CCM] scene, the apostate Ecumenical Movement and false prophets worldwide; it is that good (dead) works are a road to Hell fire and damnation. Everyone is afraid to offend the Catholics, who officially teach in Vatican II that only baptized Catholics are going to Heaven.
Please let me clarify, first, the doctrine of repentance by saying that repentance is required for salvation, but the Devil has redefined the meaning of repentance to confuse and mislead many people in our churches today. Repentance is not a self-righteous work; but rather, the admission of one's guilt of sin. This would be a work of self-righteousness, which would place the burden of salvation upon man's shoulders instead of upon the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Greek word for “repent” (in Scriptures such as Mark 1:15) means “a change of mind.” Biblical repentance unto salvation does NOT mean ceasing from sinful bad habits or forsaking the sinful world. Judas repented (a different Greek word meaning that he was sorry he got caught), but he still went to Hell. Judas didn't repent toward God. Biblical repentance unto salvation doesn't mean to be sorry for sins (which is an emotion); but rather, to realize our guilt of sin (a change of mind). We deserve to spend eternity in Hell for our sins. A person who repents believes that. If we don't deserve Hell, then why would we need a Savior?
To “repent” simply means to admit that you are a guilty sinner, which is the purpose of the Law according to Romans 3:19. The Law shows us our sinfulness and need for the Savior (Galatians 3:25-26). God's plan is beautiful. The Old Testament Law shows us our need for Satan has caused MUCH confusion (deliberately so) in this critical doctrinal area, and for obvious reasons; that is, to lead people down a wrong path of self-righteousness to Hell and damnation.
Voluntarily giving up a sinful lifestyle is a matter of discipleship and consecrating one's life, and does not involve salvation. God helps a person clean up their life as they grow in grace (1st Peter 2:2) AFTER being saved. Getting saved is simply the beginning of a new life in Christ Jesus. In Romans 12:1-2, the apostle Paul pleads with his Christian brethren at Rome (Romans 1:7) to present their bodies a living sacrifice unto God. They were already saved, but they hadn't surrendered their lives to serve God yet. Eternal life is a free gift, paid for in full by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the precious blood that He shed for our sins.
The Devil knows that confusion hinders people from making decisions. 1st Corinthians 14:33 teaches that God is NOT the author of CONFUSION. It is no coincidence that there only one version of the Muslim Quran, but there are over 500 English Bible versions which have been sold on the market since the 1611 King James Bible was first published. Please notice with me if you will the next fascinating verse in 1st Corinthians 14:33, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
In fact, Pope Benedict XVI has stated that good people do not need Biblical faith to enter Heaven...
Nonbelievers Too Can Be Saved, Says Pope
November 30, 2005
Refers to St. Augustine's Commentary on Psalm 136(137)
VATICAN CITY, NOV. 30, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Whoever seeks peace and the good of the community with a pure conscience, and keeps alive the desire for the transcendent, will be saved even if he lacks biblical faith, says Benedict XVI.
The Pope made this affirmation today at the general audience, commenting on a meditation written by St. Augustine (354-430).

The Pope is a liar and an antichrist. Jesus plainly teaches in John 3:1-5 that a man must be born again to enter into the kingdom of God. Why does the Pope teach something very different than what Jesus taught. According to Pope Benedict XVI, any good person can be saved, even without Biblical faith. The Pope is teaching damnable heresy!
Sadly, Contemporary Christian Music [CCM] and the apostate Ecumenical Movement (i.e., the let's unite by error; rather than divide over truth as God commands) embraces the Catholic religion and the Pope, refusing to call a spade a spade. Whereas the Bible teaches for believers to expose the evils of false religion (Romans 16:17; Titus 1:10-13; Ephesians 5:11; Jude 1:3); modern-day apostates in the churches are saying, “Let's all unite together and set aside all doctrinal differences.” The Bible teaches for believers to separate from unbelievers (2nd Corinthians 6:14-17). CCM singers and ecumenical ministers should be exposing the Catholic religion; not yoking together in the name of apostasy.
Tragically, Catholics and other false religions are trusting in DEAD WORKS to save them. The Bible calls them DEAD because they cannot save anyone. The only righteousness that saves is Christ's righteousness!
Ye Must Be Born Again!
You Need HIS Righteousness!
