Divorce is a Merciless Act of Unforgiveness; God Said He Will Likewise Show No Mercy!

By David J. Stewart

James 2:13, “For He shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy...”

The Bible teaches that God will show no mercy on Judgment Day toward those who have shown no mercy. There's not a more unforgiving and merciless act than to abandon and divorce a sorrowful, begging and tearful spouse who doesn't want a divorce. What a cruel thing to do to another human being. It is evil.

Matthew 18:21, “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”

Seventy times seven equals four-hundred and ninety times that Jesus told Peter to forgive a brother that trespasses against him. Notice that Peter asked if he should forgive a brother who sins against him. Jesus said yes, yes, yes!

Judgment is God's department. Perhaps you sometimes find yourself asking God to avenge you and punish those who have wronged you; but rest assure in your heart my friend that God is already a step ahead of you. Matthew 12:36, “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” God will hold every person accountable even for the very words that come out of their mouth. How much more shall God punish those who defraud their brother (1st Thessalonians 4:6), break their wedding vows (Ecclesiastes 5:5-6) and show no mercy. Jeremiah 3:20, “Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.” Divorce is a merciless act of unforgiveness!

The Bible says that unforgiveness is one of Satan's devices, by which he destroys lives! 2nd Corinthians 2:10-11, “To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of HIS DEVICES.” The Bible plainly teaches that a refusal to forgive others gives Satan an advantage. Literally, unforgiveness is a weapon that Satan uses to destroy families and churches. It is no wonder why God warns that He will reserve His harshest judgment for those who refuse to forgive others. Unforgiveness leads to divorce, church splits and broken lives.

God sees that wife who weeps in tears of regret and sorrow, begging her husband not to abandon her; but he cold-heartedly divorces her anyway, ignoring her tears and selfishly going his merry way. God will punish that man without mercy, for he has shown no mercy toward his grieving wife who begged him to stay.

God sees that man who begs his wife through tears of sorrow for her to stay with him, but she files for divorce anyway and abandons him without mercy. She showed no mercy; therefore, she will receive no mercy from God on Judgment Day (Matthew 18:35). This is Biblical. Whoever you may be, you'd better think twice before you refuse to forgive your spouse and go file for divorce. Divorce is the ultimate act of unforgiveness and self-righteous hypocrisy. God's curse is upon America because of our nation's divorce rate. In California, the divorce rate has soared over 75%. America has become a nation of unforgiving and selfish people.
