An Encouraging Word About Having Heroes

By David J. Stewart | March 2018

-4, “Ms.”

And may I just say something philosophical, while on the subject of heroes. There are people in the secular world whom I greatly admire, although they are NOT God-fearing Christians. I greatly admire Paul McCartney. Paul is an amazing man to me. He is a go-getter, staying busy, like me. I fully understand that The Beatles promoted everything from communism (U.S.S.R.) to fornication (Let's Do It On The Road). As a youth, Mr. McCartney served Satan! They admittedly doing drugs, chasing women and living wild lives of sin. I am not okay with that, God forbid.

However, Paul McCartney today, at age 76, takes excellent care of himself physically. I have always loved his beautiful voice, charming personality and the way he always makes people feel happy on stage. I have always been self-conscious, something that I dislike about myself, which intrigues me to watch how Paul McCartney lets himself go while performing his music. God gave Paul a tremendous gift. I have often prayed for Paul's salvation. I am a musician, playing many different stringed instruments, like Paul. I play ukulele, various guitars and tunings, steel guitar, banjo, et cetera. I love musicians!

Perhaps you say, “How can you look up to a wicked man like Paul McCartney?” Well, I look up to President Donald Trump too! I love the way that he carries himself. Mr. Trump is a true leader, a man's man kind of guy, despite his wickedness and denial of ever asking God for forgiveness. Mr. Trump has elevated his wealth through many immoral casinos and strip clubs. That's not true success! Albeit, I admire how Donald Trump handles the criticism of the press. I like how he tweets the public and is truly “The people's president!” I am not praising the wickedness of these men, God forbid. I am simply saying that there are good qualities about these men that I greatly admire, even cherish.

Paul McCartney is dear to me, because of his carefree spirit that I often try to emulate when I feel down. Paul doesn't let life get him down. He makes each day good, by focusing on his music and cheering others through it. If an unsaved man can do that, then why oh why should I as a born-again Christian, let life get me down? Think about that! I do not think it is sinful to enjoy some secular music, even though the artists themselves, like Karen Carpenter and Christopher Cross, may not be faithful Christians. I use secular music as a tool to uplift my spirits when I feel depressed. Music makes me happy! I thought it might be helpful to someone to share my philosophy on music and heroes. I have 10,000 times more respect for a real person like Paul McCartney, than I do for today's shallow neo-evangelical pastors who refuse to take a stand against the Devil's Bible perversions, and don't care about THE TRUTH. At least Paul McCartney is true to what he believes, not straddling the fence, going along to get along with apostasy, to make a buck.

Again, I am not saying that I am supportive of the ungodly, God forbid. I expose The Beatles as being of the Devil. Sadly, George Harrison is burning in hell, who openly worshipped Hare Krishna and denied Jesus Christ as his savior. John Lennon may actually be in Heaven, who at one time professed to be a Christian. He could be the believer in Luke 8:13 who fell by the wayside, never maturing to bear fruit, because of persecution, which definitely came his way quickly because of his worldly music. Only God and John Lennon know the truth. Ringo Starr also professes to be a Christian, but Anglican, which is really bad, because Anglicans teach that water baptism and communion (sacraments) are necessary for salvation. So I am not sure about Ringo, kindly. Paul is agnostic from what I have read. Satan uses worldly success and false religion to hinder men from entering into the Kingdom of God.

My point in saying these things is that it is okay to have heroes and mentors, and they don't always have to be Christians. As Dr. Hyles used to wisely say, “Every man is my teacher!” I also learn from men like Paul McCartney and Donald Trump that worldly success can easily be mistaken for true success. According to Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 these men are total failures in God's sight! So as Christians we have a different mindset than the unsaved world. We have the MIND OF CHRIST (1st Corinthians 2:16).

“Now you say, 'Brother Hyles, you make an issue.' You dead sure better know I'll make an issue!”
