God Needs to Hear That You Love Him

By David J. Stewart | April 2018

Oh my dear friend, our great God needs to be loved. He has a deeply passionate need to know that we love Him,., and sincerely praised for His goodness and beauty. Our great God created mankind in His own precious triune image. God has created man as a 3-fold being of spirit, soul and body. 1st Thessalonians 5:23, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” This is interesting. Most people always listen the body first, then soul and spirit; but the Bible mentions the spirit first followed by the soul and body (flesh) lastly. The significance of this divine order shows us that man is a spirit, that resides in the soul, and and the body is its mere temporary tabernacle.

We are commanded and expected as God's redeemed children to glorify God with our spirit, soul and body in all things. 1st Corinthians 6:20, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” God deserves our love, affection, gratitude, praise and sincerest compliments, continually.

But being created in God's image means much more than just our human three-fold similarities with the Godhead (i.e., Trinity). The Lord gets lonely just like we get lonely. We are made in His image. The Holy Spirit can be grieved, just like we humans can be grieved. Ephesians 4:30, “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” God gets His feelings hurt too. God loves to be bragged-on and praised for the wondrous things He has designed and created, and for His bountiful works and blessings toward mankind. God deserves out utmost love and respect, and most importantly, our unwavering obedience.

So let me ask you friend, “When is the last time that you leaned back in your chair, looked up toward Heaven, and just said, 'God, I sure love you!” I just did, which prompted me to write this important article. It is my hope and prayerful desire that people, after reading my article, will get into a new habit (if you haven't been doing it already) of thanking and praising God openly when you are in public, and when alone in private as well. Our God is real! God needs praise from His creatures. What makes it so special when human praise the Lord, is that we are choosing to do so, never having seen the Lord in Person yet. Though not seeing, yet believing, we love Jesus Christ with an unspeakable joy!!! 1st Peter 1:8, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” I love that Bible passage!!!

Perhaps you say that God already knows we love Him, so we the fuss or need to tell God what He already knows. Well, good night, how would that work in a marriage. If a man never tells his wife the words, “I love you!,” she is going to feel unloved at times. I sure would. A man needs to hear those passionate words from his wife often, that says, “I love you so much and thank God for making you, you are special to me.” If you cannot say those words, something is wrong. At a minimum, even if you are no longer fond of your husband or wife, you should at least be able to honestly tell them that you care about them with God's unconditional love. Everyone needs to be loved. Granted, most people live without love, having it denied to them by our wretched spiritually depraved American society today. Tragically, love equates to nothing more than fornication in these perilous days. Where you find love, you will find God.

So I encourage you, dear reader, to take some time out from your busy schedule to tell God each day that you love Him very much, and need His help with everything. God loves when we trust upon Him, seeking His wisdom and strength. Pray and let your requests be made known unto God (Philippians 4:6-7). When we don't pray, we are sinfully proud, telling God by our actions that we don't need His help, which is is terrible. God has blessed us all with so many great things in these modern times.

I was just thinking yesterday what it would be like without having electricity. No one in the Bible ever enjoyed the modern conveniences of electrical appliances and electronic gadgets (e.g., computers, television, MP3 players, videos). Solomon in all his famed greatness, beautiful wives galore and piles of money, never tasted cookie-dough ice-cream from Ben and Jerry's. Ha, Ha, but I do, and it's some of my favorite! I have good things in life that Solomon could only dream of! Praise the Lord.

I was thinking yesterday how God could have put my particular spirit into a body during the times of Hebrew bondage in slavery in Egypt, or in a soldier's body during World War II, or into any one of millions of person's shoes that I would never want to fill. I thank God for putting my spirit in this body, during this time period of history, when I can use the internet to reach untold millions of souls with the Gospel of free grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ, My God and Savior.

Let God know how you feel. He wants to hear from you friend. God created you and then broke the mold. You are unique, one of a kind, special to your Maker. When you die and leave this earth one day, there will NEVER be another you.

“Now you say, 'Brother Hyles, you make an issue.' You dead sure better know I'll make an issue!”
