Fruitless Christians

by David J. Stewart

Revelation 3:18, “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.”

It is sad that the Christian life has become a rarity amongst believers in America. It's something they can take or leave. They are saved “as by fire” (1st Corinthians 3:15). That is, they have been born-again; but they have chosen to remain in the Wilderness (which pictures worldliness, sin and selfish interests) instead of moving toward the Promised Land (which pictures God's will for one's life). Most believers spend their life wandering in circles in the Wilderness, just as did the Jews in Moses' time. They are selfish.

So many professed Christians are consumed with their worldly possessions and future plans. Yet, they have no burden for lost sinners. The Bible teaches that Christ-rejecters who die in their sins will suffer in the flames of Hell for all eternity (2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:11-15). That horrible fact doesn't seem to grasp most professed Christians. Is it nothing to you? The world is going to Hell, literally. Most believers sinfully think about money more than they do about soul-winning.

In Revelation 3:18, God addressed the believers at the church of Laodicea, calling them a bunch of phonies. They were complacent with their worldly possessions; but they had forgotten about serving the Lord. Although they had need of nothing materially, Jesus called them “naked” and “poor.” They had failed to be rich toward God (Luke 12:21).

Jesus called the Laodicean believers “blind” and “miserable.” Yet, those “wretched” believers thought they were doing just fine. This describes so many blinded churchgoers today. It's tragic that true believers, who were once blinded by Satan before they were saved, are still blinded in other matters. Yes, even Christians can be blinded from the truth if they do not seek the truth. It is sad that most Christians, pastors included, are woefully ignorant concerning everything from the 911 attacks being an inside job, to the Satanic New International Version of the Bible. The truth is obvious to anyone who desires to know it. Proverb 1:20 tells us that wisdom crieth in the streets. God has always made it so.

Many professed believers today talk-the-talk, and speak highly of God, and claim to love Jesus; but they are wretched in their spiritual lives, never witnessing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone. They are fruitless believers. A lot of people can talk-up-a-storm about God and religion; but when it all boils down to the bottom line, they couldn't care less about soul-winning. They are immature believers stunted in their Christian growth. If you are not passionate about winning lost sinners to Jesus Christ, then you're not right with God. You are still in spiritual kindergarten.

There is no greater truth than the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and sadly, no truth as neglected. Religion abounds these days; but the genuine Gospel message has been corrupted in most religious circles. The great need of our time is obedient Christians who preach the Gospel. Most churches don't even know what the term “soul-winning” means. God calls the soul-winner “wise” in Proverb 11:30. The dearest thing to the heart of God is soul-winning. God calls the soul-winner's feet “beautiful” in Romans 10:15. God says in Luke 8:15 that believers who have “an honest and good heart” will become soul-winners. Something is very wrong with a professed Christian who has no desire to share the Gospel. They have a selfish and greedy heart. They are ingrates.

May God place a fire in all your heart to preach the Gospel so that lost sinners will be saved; or just continue to live your selfish life, making selfish plans, laying up treasures for yourself, and then you'll have no one to blame at the Judgment Seat of Christ except your selfish self. You will be a pauper in Heaven, having won no souls to Jesus Christ.
