The Problem with “A Father's Love Letter”

By David J. Stewart

“A Father's Love Letter” (www.fathersloveletter.com) is a presentation circulated around the world in 90 different languages, written by Barry Adams, expressing God's unconditional love for mankind. The video presentation is narrated by Ron Lamont and the music produced by Robert Critchley.

The presentation is without question heart-touching, especially to those who may feel unloved or have sustained great loss in their life.

The big problem with the presentation is that it utterly fails to teach the truth about Eternal Punishment, i.e., being cast into the Lake of Fire for all eternity. The Bible says that in the Last Days people will not tolerate accurate Biblical teaching. 2nd Timothy 4:3, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.”

Barry Adams is sincere in my opinion, but his presentation is a false gospel. The Biblical Gospel includes the knowledge of sin and the realization that one is GUILTY, deserving of hellfire, and has broken God's Law. Mr. Adams only mentions the word “sin” once in his presentation, stating concerning God the Father, “I am not counting your sins.” There is no indictment of sin, no mention of Hell or judgment, no mention of the Lake of Fire. To be saved, a person MUST acknowledge their GUILT and justly deserved penalty of sin. Otherwise, why would one need a Savior?

Barry Adams portrays God solely as a loving, easy-going, passive and mild God. Yet, 2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9 state, "In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction." John 3:36 states, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." Mr. Adams ignores every Scripture about the judgment, anger and intolerance of God toward unrepentant sinners.

Adams spends most of the presentation quoting Scriptures that pertain only to born-again believers, giving the false impression that God is not angry toward the wicked. Psalm 7:11, "God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day."

I am not trying to be unkind, but as the church becomes more worldly, so does the world become more churchy. A lot of unsaved people are coming to religion, because there is no mention of sin, Hell, God's anger or coming judgment; but those people are not coming to Jesus Christ for salvation. They are coming under false pretense. A lot of unsaved people speak highly of Jesus, go to church and talk about love, love, love; but they have never been born-again from above by the Spirit of God. Salvation can only occur when a lost sinner acknowledges their woeful guilt of sin and much deserved penalty of hellfire, and that person trusts upon the name of Jesus for forgiveness, abandoning all reliance upon religion, good works or personal merit. We are saved by Christ's righteousness, and not our own self-righteousness.

“A Father's Love Letter” invites lost sinners to come to a loving Father under false pretenses. God IS counting your sins if you're not saved. What HAPPENS in Vegas is recorded in Heaven! Jesus said that men will give account for “every idle word spoken” on Judgment Day (Matthew 12:36). Adams' presentation doesn't specify if he's speaking to the saved or unsaved, which can be interpreted many different ways by the viewer. The presentation is highly ecumenical in nature, meaning it is well adapted to various different religions, even false religions which teach the heresy of works salvation.

It is time for born-again believers to preach the Word of God without apology, telling lost sinners that they are in serious trouble with God and need to get saved. Unbelievers will go to Hell forever! Those who reject Jesus as the Christ are living under the WRATH OF GOD and their days are numbered before God casts them into Hell-fire. Telling others about the love of God is important, but so also is informing them about the reality of sin, Hell and judgment. Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death..." Revelation 20:15, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." 1st John 3:8, "He that committeth sin is of the devil..." If such Scriptures offend lost sinners, good, they need to get saved. If they're only willing to come to religion in the name of love, then that is all they're getting—RELIGION!
