If Ye Be Not Afraid With Any Amazement

By David J. Stewart | February 2019

1st Peter 3:1-6, “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.”

Ladies, the precious passage of Scripture I just quoted to you can make or break your marriage and family. It might even save your life! I hope that you will take to heart the truth I'm going to share with you. I want to be a blessing in the Lord to marriages and families, which are failing everywhere today.

The Bible has a lot to say about our mouth, and the power of the tongue. I think this passage of Scripture is teaching wives to be submissive, and not overreact, when their husband gets angry. Many women foolishly pour gas on the fire by their inflammatory words! 1st Peter 3:6, “Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” There is much theological debate over the interpretation of this passage, but to me it makes perfect sense. A lot of women improperly respond to a husband's anger, which compels him to turn violent. Argue as you may, the thousands of news stories over the years about domestic violence support my interpretation of 1st Peter 3:6.

We also see that the opposite of being “afraid with any amazement” is for a wife to call her husband “lord” (her authority), which is doing well and being submissive. One of the most common things that I hear in the news is about angry husbands murdering their wives. It breaks my heart, because there is nothing more encouraging than seeing a stable and happy family. Something that I often notice, and you will notice it too if you pay attention, is WHY men kill their wives, which is almost always a consequence of her RUNNING HER BIG MOUTH! The Holy Bible has much to say about the power that a woman has over a man, for good or for evil. ...

Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Proverbs 31:26, “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”

Proverbs 7:21, “With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.”

Ecclesiastes 10:4, “If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.”

Need I say more? Wow! As you just read, a woman can tempt a man to sin, just with her lips. She can cause him to yield to sin, with her speech. And the best way to handle a normal person who is angry is to remain calm and quiet. Death and life, the Bible says, are in the POWER of the tongue! I am saddened each time that I read the horrifying story of another destroyed family. Oftentimes a man murders his wife because she ran her big mouth!

Case in point is a heartbreaking and horrifying true story in the Miami Herald about a young man, a husband, who murdered his wife in Florida. He then murdered his wife's friend, to give him enough time to go murder his wife's pastor. Pay careful attention to what triggered the husband's rage...

Amber Avalos returned to the couple’s home in the 1200 block of 67th Street Northwest in Bradenton from dropping off some of their children at school on the morning of Dec. 4, 2014, when the couple began to argue in the kitchen over his being out drinking the night before.

Avalos became enraged when she told him that she was not afraid of him or to die.

“I have never put my hands on that woman in 16 years,” Avalos later told lead homicide detectives Jeffrey Bliss and John Kenney following his arrest. “When I put my hands on her that was it.” [emphasis added]

Please don't misunderstand, I am not defending that wicked husband, God forbid. I am 100% against abuse of any form. The Holy Bible commands every husband to “dwell with them [a wife] according to knowledge.” 1st Peter 3:7, “Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” In other words, a husband needs to use his brain and not his emotions when dealing with an emotional wife! Someone needs to maintain control in an emotional conflict. In the preceding tragic story, the husband had a booze problem, which destroyed him. I hate booze and so should you!!!

My point is not to justify nor defend creeps who abuse their wives, but to warn women about the “POWER OF THE TONGUE”! Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” I could literally show you several dozen similar news stories about women whose tongues got the murdered! I did a search on Google for “man kills wife for arguing” and 350,000,000 results appeared! I don't think any wife ought to live in fear, not feeling confident to express her opinions to her husband. I get that! However, the reality of life is that our mouth can get us into a lot of serious trouble! Not too long ago, I watched a crime documentary on YouTube, where an off-duty policeman removed his gun and murdered his wife for her words in their garage! So sad! In another tragic story, a dentist killed his wife with an aluminum baseball bat in front of their 10 year old daughter, when she threatened to leave him. I wrote this article to caution women about the power of their words!

Many women have a wrong heart's attitude, which comes forth from their mouth when engaged in a fight with her husband. The Holy Scriptures declare that the words from our mouth evidence what resides in our heart. Luke 6:45, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” What's in your heart dear reader? I often talk about the inspired Word of God, and what is wrong with the corrupt modern Bible versions, because I am consumed with the purity of God's Words. The psalmist felt the same way. Psalms 119:139, “My zeal hath consumed me, because mine enemies have forgotten thy words.”

Proverbs 7:21, “With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.”

Ecclesiastes 10:4, “If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.”

Case in point,

As a Christian, I stopped listening to the daily news years ago, because I don't think it is mentally healthy to hear about murders, drugs abuse, rapes and all manner of crime each day. The Word of God teaches us to think about good, pure, lovely, virtuous and honest things (Philippians 4:8). That is why I like to think about playing my musical instruments, and think about my Christ-honoring ministry. Helping people understand spiritual things is a good thing. Albeit, we cannot completely avoid our surroundings, and bad news still finds its way to us. If you're like me, reading one news story entices you to read another, and another, so before you know it you are reading dozens of news stories.

Case in point

Proverbs 4:23, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 16:32, “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”

I also like to watch documentaries, and from time to time I'll see a crime

NOBODY IS LAUGHING IN HELL!!!

Did you know that you don't have to ask Jesus to save you? God has already told you how to be saved, that is, by simply believing that His Son died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and raised up from the dead three days later. Christ raised up from the dead, which means that God the Father accepted His Son's payment for the sins of the world. Christ suffered on the cross so that we wouldn't have to suffer in a literal Hell forever. Amen! You don't have to bow your head to be saved. You don't have to pray. You don't have to do anything except believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and make that your only hope for Heaven!

“If your moral judgment is crooked and rotten, and you have no Bible conviction, when the conscience says, 'Do right!', you may do what your moral judgment said for you to do, and it's wrong! That's the reason we need Christian schools. That's the reason we need Christian homes, to teach our young people!” (a truthful quote from the precious MP3 sermon by Brother Lester Roloff, “Titanic”)

Give Me Jesus!
(video sermon by Pastor Danny Castle - You don't want to keep your eye on others, because they'll let you down. They'll hurt you.
And you don't want to keep your eyes on yourself, because you'll feel inadequate, like a loser and a failure. Keep your eyes on Jesus!)

Salvation is not doing your best, it is having Christ's best put to your account through receiving Him by faith.

God will not save anyone who is trying to be saved, He will only save those who are trusting to be saved.

Religion is man trying to reach God through human effort, but Christianity is
God trying to reach man by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son on the cross.

“You can sit there and say, 'Oh, well, you just took it too far. You just took King James onlyism too far!' Well, you know what brother, you can't take it far enough, when they're pushing all these false versions, and all the bookstores, and the Christian bookstores, and all of your big name preachers are all preaching false versions! You know, we need to stand our ground on this issue!!!” —a quote by Pastor Steven Anderson from the awesome MP3 sermon, “Saved By The Word.”

Redeeming The Time

“Nothing in my future can ever affect the salvation that I have... Once you trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are eternally secure!” —Pastor Hank Lindstrom (1940-2008), a quote from the classic MP3 sermon titled, “How Permanent Is Your Salvation?

“Salvation is based upon purely what Jesus Christ has done. And if you've trusted Jesus Christ here, you're saved forever! Nothing in your life, nothing in your death, angels, principalities, nothing—nothing in your future—could ever undo that relationship that has been made when you trusted Jesus Christ as Savior. And there are many people who are confused over this whole thing.”
—Pastor Hank Lindstrom (1940-2008), a quote from the classic MP3 sermon titled, “How Permanent Is Your Salvation?”

“There are many people who name the name of Jesus Christ, who are not saved, because they're trusting in living the Christian life, or in their works, or in some efforts that they're doing, in order to obtain their salvation.”
