Mission Accomplished: Brits Embrace Police State

Kurt Nimmo | July 14 2005

“News of the breakthrough comes as a Times poll conducted in the aftermath of the bombings indicates that an overwhelming majority of the British public favors a tough approach to terrorist suspects,” reports the Times Online (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,22989-1690391,00.html).

“Almost 90 per cent of people want the police to be given new powers to arrest people suspected of planning terrorist acts, tighter immigration controls and strict baggage inspections.” Never mind none of this will prevent “terrorism,” especially state-sponsored terrorism.

More importantly, this “consensus” will breathe new life into the Labor government’s compulsory National Identity Card plan and a nod and a wink for Blair’s so-called “anti-terrorism” laws I.e., the Prevention of Terrorism Bill) allowing the government to impose house arrest, curfews, and electronic tagging without trial of “terrorism suspects,” that is to say anybody the British government deems a terrorist (without evidence or the hassle of courts and defense lawyers).

Hermann Göring: “Of course the people don’t want war. But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
