Standing Alone As a Christian

by David J. Stewart

I'd rather be poor in this present world, giving up my earthly life for Jesus; than to keep my life here on earth, selling my soul for wealth, fame and pleasures, and then suffer for it in eternity. Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”

Living for God means being rejected by this sinful world (John 15:19). Living for God means suffering persecution (2nd Timothy 3:12). Living for God means doing it alone (Philippians 2:21).

As I see billions of people around the world worshipping the various Rock 'N' Roll and so-called “Christian Rock 'N' Roll” idols... I am reminded that Daniel was alone in the lion's den, John the Baptist was alone in prison, Enoch walked alone with God, Jonah went to Nineveh alone to preach the gospel, David went out alone to fight Goliath, Jeremiah was cast alone into a miry pit of clay, Jesus was alone as He carried His own cross to Calvary, and so forth.

Sin and evil are often committed by groups; but serving God is an individual choice, and you'll oftentimes (if not all the time) stand alone as a Christian. Many women get an abortion because they know millions of other women have had abortion. The same is true of many sins. Yet, as Christians we ought never attempt to justify doing wrong because others are doing wrong. God is going to judge each of us individually (Romans 12:14; Matthew 12:36). END
