Be A Fanatic for Jesus!

by David J. Stewart

Titus 2:14 “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

Titus 2:14, “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” That word “zealous” in the Greek means “a fanatic!” Literally, God wants us to get fanatical about doing good works! God wants us to get excited with excessive enthusiasm and intense devotion for contending for the faith, soul-winning, reaching out to “the least of these My brethren” (Matthew 25:40), taking a stand against public wickedness and evil, uplifting the precious name of Jesus, putting forth the banner of the cross of Christ, defending the King James Bible, exposing false prophets, running bus ministries, getting people saved and baptized, building our churches, supporting faithful pastors who preach THE TRUTH, and get excited about the soon coming Rapture!!!

America's churches are more reminiscent of morgues than houses of God. Instead of Standing-On-The-Promises as the hymn goes, we're Sitting-On-The-Premises! All I can hear are Jesus' Words to the churches today... “WHY STAND YE HERE ALL THE DAY IDLE?” (Matthew 20:6). Most so-called churches are nothing more than glorified social clubs. Revelation 2:5, “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” Notice that God decides if a church is a church, and no one else. If God removes your candlestick (i.e., your charter to be a church), then you are nothing more than a 501c3 State-licensed organization (which is NOT a church in any sense). A church may operate under the umbrella of a 501c3 organization; but that is not the church. The church is NOT a business!

God has redeemed us from all iniquity, to purify unto Himself a peculiar people, fanatical of good works!!! God didn't redeem us to fill 18 inches of pew on Sunday, and then hit the barstool on Friday. God didn't redeem us to play flute on church Sunday, and then saxophone in the nightclub on Friday. In Revelation 3:15-16 God says He wants us in or out, on or off, hot or cold, choose sides! Most professed Christians never do anything for God. They only go to church to ease their guilt, have a place to fellowship with a higher class of socialables, or their spouse pressured them to go.

Get excited about the things of God. One of the great joys of the Christian life is contending for the Biblical faith (Jude 1:3). It is our duty (Ephesians 5:11; Psalm 94:16). Soul-winning is every believer's responsibility (Proverb 11:30).
