Doubting Salvation

by David J. Stewart

1st Corinthians 10:13, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

The Bible teaches that we all have the same temptations in life. No one is exempt from them. Doubt is a temptation that we all experience in life. Everyone has doubts at times. I doubted my salvation for the first 7-years that I was saved. I was a new Christian and naive concerning the doctrine of Christ. Over time, as I learned the Word of God, God gave me the perfect peace that I am a born-again Christian, a child of God, safe in God's eternal security. My assurance rests in Christ's righteousness, in the PROMISES of God; and not in anything I have ever done, am doing or ever will do. My self-righteousness means nothing to God (Isaiah 64:6). I am going to Heaven because of HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, that is, the imputed righteousness of Christ given to every believer at the time of salvation (Romans 4:5-6; 2nd Corinthians 5:21).

I have written extensively on this subject in the following article from my heart of hearts. If you have any doubts or difficulties finding peace about your salvation, I know these truths will help you my friend...

What If I Am Not Saved?
(My testimony and 7-year battle with the assurance of salvation)

I was reading the book of Luke this week and the following truth jumped out at me...

Luke 24:25, “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.”

If you read the preceding Scriptures in Luke 24:13-31. This is the famous story of the two disciples walking on the road to Emmaus with the Lord. The Bible says in Luke 24:16 that God withheld Jesus' identity from these men, so that they would not recognize Him. Jesus asked them why they were so sad and what they were talking about. They told the story of Jesus' life and how He had foretold that He would rise after three days from the dead, but it had been 3-days already and Jesus wasn't there (so they thought). I love this story. They're talking to Jesus Himself, and yet they don't recognize Him and are doubting the Words which the Lord had spoken before His crucifixion. So Jesus rebuked them in Luke 24:25.

Jesus said they were fools because of their wishy-washy doubting and lack of earnest faith in the promises of God. But notice carefully what the Lord did afterwards. He expounded them with the Scriptures from Moses through all the prophets concerning Himself. Amen! Jesus told us likewise in John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” We learn about Jesus in the Bible. Any Bible study that doesn't center upon the Lord Jesus Christ is a bad Bible study and a  lousy Bible-teacher. Everything that we teach from the Scriptures should exalt the precious name of Jesus Christ and lead people closer to Him. I don't want people to leave saying, “That's a great website!” I want people to leave saying, “Jesus is a great God and Savior!”

The purpose of my website is to expound others in the Scriptures concerning Jesus. I want you to follow Jesus, not me. I'm following Jesus and I want you to follow Him too. It's all about Jesus Christ my friend, Who was God almighty in the flesh when He walked this earth (John 1:1-3,14; John 10:33). The Lord rose from the dead miraculously and is in Heaven today (Colossians 3:1-2), interceding for the saints as our High Priest (Romans 9:34; Hebrews 4:15-16).

If you have doubts as did the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, then you need to SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES as Jesus commanded in John 5:39, “...for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”

2nd Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
