Don't Stop Praying

by David J. Stewart

1st Peter 5:6, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.”

Every Christian knows what it's like to pray and not see immediate results. If God answered our prayers immediately, in the same manner in which we go into a grocery store to buy things, then everyone would pray for the wrong reasons. Those seasoned prayer warriors who have stood by their faith over the years, have learned that God works over time (in “mysterious ways” as some would say). God doesn't work in days, weeks, months or even years, but often in decades. We are living in a faithless generation where people pray for a week and then quit because God didn't answer their prayers. It doesn't work that way.

God blesses the man, or woman, who keeps on praying even when all hope seems lost. This is the true test of one's faith. A humble man will continue to pray, expressing his gratitude toward God, even if he doesn't see God's hand working in his own life. 1st peter 5:6 says that God will exalt a humble believer IN DUE TIME. This teaches us that there will be times when we are humble, and do pray, and God doesn't seem to be answering. Psalm 44:23, "Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever." Is God sleeping? Does He not hear our prayers? Yes, God hears, but He has His own timing.

Granted, it is frustrating to pray and pray and pray and God doesn't seem to answer.
