The Sin of Loving Money
Or... Thinking Only in Terms of Dollars-and-Cents

by David J. Stewart

1st Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Most people only think in terms of dollars-and-cents. They care not about ethics, or serving the Lord, or truly helping the misfortunate; all they care about is making money. Everything is about money to them. As a born-again Christian who loves the Lord and desires to obey the Scriptures, I detest money. I hate money with a passion. Money does strange things to people, turning even brothers into bitter enemies.

To the degree that a professed Christian loves money, to that same degree they are evidencing their lack of faith in what the Scriptures have to say about eternity. Jesus told us in Matthew 6:20 to “lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.” Amen! Yet, most people, even professed Christians, are greedy and covetous. Very, very few believers are soulwinners. They will be sad and full of tears in Heaven when they stand in Judgment before Jesus Christ (1st Corinthians 3:15).

Jesus said in Luke 8:15 that they which have “an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.” You cannot have an honest and good heart and love money too. This is why the legal profession is so corrupt and evil. Judges and lawyers are some of the most wicked and greedy people on earth. They take advantage of people in their dire moments of life, deliberately lying to intimidate their victims, and bilking people for tens-of-thousands of dollars, doing hardly any legitimate labor to justify such exorbitant legal fees. It is legalized robbery!

Very few people know what it truly means to give. Hardly anyone will give when they don't have much; but the rich think they are such wonderful humanitarians for giving less than one-percent of their money to the poor.

It is the love of money that keeps It is the love of money that fuels the multi-billion dollar pornography industry.
