Sin Versus Evil

By David J. Stewart

2nd Peter 2:19 “While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.”

The Bible says that Jesus was a friend of sinners (Matthew 11:19); but the Bible never said that Jesus was a friend of evil people. The scribes and Pharisees were evil, conspiring to kill Jesus (Matthew 26:4). Jesus rebuked the Pharisees, calling them vipers (deadly snakes), children of the Devil and told them they were not entering into Heaven in their self-righteousness (Matthew 5:20).

Evil people are those who deliberately hurt others. Planned gossip is evil. Whereas sin is spontaneous, a crime of passion, something that we didn't preconceive to do; evil is something that we plan to do that is sinful. Evil is planned sin, that is, preconceived sin. Lawyers are evil to bilk people out of their money at dire times in their life. Lawyers take advantage of people during the most difficult times in their life. It is an evil profession.

The entire American court system works to take children away from their parents, elevating the state's rights over parental rights, which is evil. It is evil to force parents to drug their children with dangerous drugs. The State has unlimited resources and money. The administrative judge makes money. The lawyers make money. The whole system makes money, but the family that's surviving paycheck-to-paycheck go under financially. The state wipes their mouth as an adulterous woman who says she's done no wrong. The truth is that the State is evil, monsters in God's sight, who will be punished in eternity by God's wrath.

The U.S. Supreme Court has flaunted itself above God's Laws, legalized the murdering of innocent children. Exodus 20:13 calls abortion murder. The Supreme Court justices are unjust killers of children, the enemies of God, the enemy of the people and the children of Hell. Yet those arrogant judges dared to fire Judge Roy Moore for refusing to remove a display of the Ten Commandments from outside his courtroom. Arrogance saturates the American legal system, Washington D.C. politicians, Wall Street thieves and the secret powers behind the systematic dismantling of America. They're all a bunch of Godless criminals, thieves and evil doers. The American people are ultimately to blame for allowing this mess to go this far. Sin makes people indifference, perhaps the greatest sin of all next to the unpardonable sin—rejecting the gospel of Jesus Christ.

All evil is sin, but not all sin is evil. If you find yourself gossiping about a person because someone brought that person's name up, and you acted on impulse, that is a sin. You didn't plan to talk evil about them. Perhaps that person had previously hurt your feelings or did something to hurt you. You pray for that person, but deep in your hurt you don't like what they did to hurt you, and so you find yourself constantly battling mixed feelings, asking God to help you to love instead of hate. We all go through that, that is, if you are trying to do right in God's eyes. Yet, this is a very different situation than when a person plans to go throughout the neighborhood to everybody they know, speaking evil concerning their neighbor, deliberately trying to turn people against the person you don't like. That is pure evil and you might as well put a gun to that person's head and pull the trigger! Gossip is tongue murder!!! Planned gossip is more evil than spontaneous adultery!

Carefully notice in the Lord's Prayer that Jesus tells us to pray to be delivered from EVIL, not from SIN. Matthew 6:13, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” You see, no one can be delivered from sin. We are always going to commit sin as long as we are in this fleshly body. The human sin-nature cannot be tamed. It's impossible! The Lord said to pray for God to deliver us from evil, that is, to keep us from deliberately committing sin. We should pray daily for God to keep us from planning to do evil things. We ought to pray for God to deliver us from doing evil, but realistically, it is not reasonable to expect not to sin ever again.

We shouldn't desire to sin. God doesn't give anyone permission to sin. Sin is always wrong. Yet, we will sin at times. The Bible says that they who walk in the Spirit shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). We can choose at any given time not to fulfil the lusts of the flesh, but we won't always make that correct choice because we are in the flesh, sinful by nature, having darkness in us. Jesus is the light that brightens men's souls (Isaiah 9:2; John 1:1-10).

Although commonly called “The Lord's Prayer,” it is really “The Disciple's Prayer,” because they asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. Jesus was the sinless, perfect, spotless Lamb of God (1st Peter 2:22; Hebrews 4:15). Since Jesus never sinned, these words could not be His, because in the example prayer He says, “forgive us our debts.” So this is a prayer intended for us, Christ's followers.

So as Christians let us be on guard against sin and evil, but realize that you and I will sin every day in either deed or thought. Yet, we don't have to commit evil. We can choose not to do evil. Drinking alcohol is evil, because you are choosing to do it. In the Old Testament, people had to “tarry long” the Bible says in Proverbs 23:30 to get drunk. This is because they didn't have the highly concentrated alcoholic beverages that are sold today. They only had wine that was naturally fermented. It is a sin to drink the highly concentrated booze beverages today that intoxicate the body after just one drink. It's because of evil attorneys and evil judges that the evil beer company executives have continued their evil business of destroying lives.

Most of all, it's the evil attitude of Americans who want to party, get down and celebrate with whiskey and beer. God hates such riotous living. Beer is evil, and those who drink it are fools, playing a game of Russian Roulette. The Bible teaches an-eye-for-an-eye and a-tooth-for-a-tooth. Evil drunks hire an evil lawyer and an evil judge lets them go do evil again. Drinking alcohol as a recreation is no different than having an Oxycontin party.

Opening a tavern to sell alcohol is evil. Having an adulterous affair may have been a crime of passion, a spontaneous sin; but having an abortion is ALWAYS evil. A woman wearing sexy pants is evil, because she is deliberately trying to cause men to lust. Miniskirts and low-cut blouses are evil, because it is planned. God hates evil, and so should we as His children (Psalms 97:10). America is saturated with evil today. Rock concerts are evil. Country music is equally as evil, promoting sensuality, dirty videos and sexual suggestiveness. Country music has become one of the most woeful evils in the world. Country music is synonymous with adultery, fornication, lewdness, broken homes and divorce.

Sin is deceitful, because the more it is tolerated, the less evil it seems. Americans today readily accept abortion, homosexuality, lewdness, taking God's name in vain, dishonoring parents, divorce, false religion, covetousness, stealing, drunkenness and casino gambling. These woeful evils are commonplace and have tragically become a way of life in our wicked culture. God is not feared. The Bible was banned from our nation's classrooms in 1963. We deserve every bit of evil that has befallen our country, for we have brought this upon ourselves by forgetting the Lord.
