Hell's Inside the Earth

In numerous places in the Word of God, we are told that hell is located "down." There is no doubt that hell is in the center of the earth. Few people realize that 95% of the earth's mass is molten rock. It is a FACT that the center of the earth is a smoldering abyss of lava, sulfuric (brimstone) to be exact. We are WARNED in Revelation 21:8 that the Lake of Fire will burn with FIRE and Brimstone (sulfur)...

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." -Revelation 21:8

When Korah and his followers rebelled against the Lord, He opened up the earth and swallowed them alive into the jaws of hell...

"And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign." -Numbers 26:10

The Bible always makes reference to hell being located "down," never up (heaven is always up).

"For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains." -Deuteronomy 32:22

Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them." -Psalm 55:15

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit." -Isaiah 14:15

"And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell." -Luke 10:15

"For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell..." -2nd Peter 2:4

The bottom line is that you don't want to go to hell, regardless of where it is located. Please read, Hell Inside the Earth.

Hell and the Lake of Fire

The Bible often mentions "death" and "hell" together...

"And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." -Revelation 20:13-15

The "dead" which are being delivered are ALL the Christ-rejecters throughout history. Every human being who fails to obey the Gospel of Christ will go to hell (2nd Thessalonians 1:8). Hell is like a jail cell, where the guilty temporarily await sentencing in court (2nd Peter 2:4). After being sentenced at the Great White Throne of Judgment (where all the world's unsaved will stand trial), the wicked will be PUNISHED in the lake of fire for all eternity. "...punished with everlasting destruction..." -2nd Thessalonians 1:9

As read in the above Scriptures, the Bible teaches that "hell" will be cast into the lake of fire. Though I would not argue the point, I personally believe that "hell" in Revelation 20:13-15 may simply be referring to the dead in hell, not the place of hell itself. It wouldn't make sense to cast a "place" into the lake of fire. We do KNOW that the inhabitants of hell will one day be judged and then cast into EVERLASTING FIRE prepared for the devil and his angels..."Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" -Matthew 25:41. Notice the word "cursed." Only cursed people go to hell. To die in one's sin without the Lord is to be cursed forever. It's so simple to be saved, yet the wicked flaunt their pride and wicked unbelief. If only people would come to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation...they would be forgiven and saved. "Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." -1st Timothy 2:4

Whether hell and the lake of fire are separate places, or the same place...the punishment is still the same...EVERLASTING FIRE! (Matthew 25:41) The important thing is that you don't end up there.

Hell is NOT the Grave

Psalm 9:17 reads...

"The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."

If the word "hell" (Old Testament Hebrew...Sheol) only refers to the grave, then where do the righteous go? Psalm 9:17 would make absolutely no sense if BOTH the wicked and the righteous go to the same grave. God said that the wicked go to hell. If the righteous also go to hell, then Psalm 9:17 is nonsense. The truth is that "hell" (Sheol) in the Old Testament was a very broad term. Death was a big mystery back in the Old Testament. Today, we have the complete Word of God and have a much greater understanding of spiritual truths. "Hell" in the Old Testament referred to the UNKNOWN GRAVE. Sometimes "Sheol" (hell) simply meant grave, at other times it meant hell fire. All Sheol referred to in the Old Testament was to the realm of the unknown. The obvious implication in Psalm 9:17 is that the wicked will be PUNISHED.

Hell Burns with Fire!

We know that HELL HAS FIRE because Jesus Himself said it does...

"if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." -Mark 9:47-48

Jesus clearly said in John 14:2 that he wouldn't mislead us..."In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you..." Jesus said what He meant and meant what He said. Jesus referred to hell as a place of fire, torment, brimstone, weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth, and everlasting punishment. Only a complete fool would try to discredit the plain teachings of the Word of God...HELL BURNS WITH FIRE!

"Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:" -Matthew 25:41

Although different aspects of hell and the lake of fire can be debated, one Biblical TRUTH is certain beyond any shadow of a doubt...those who die in their sins will be punished in EVERLASTING FIRE!
